Achieving any New Year Goals: A Step-By-Step Guide Toward Success

Welcome to a brand-new year! What better time to take charge of your dreams and turn them into reality? In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the proven strategies and actionable steps to set and achieve your goals no matter what New Year you’re in. As we dive into the art of goal-setting, organization, accountability, and celebration, remember: this is your year to shine!

Setting Clear and Specific Goals: The SMART Goal Method

At the heart of any successful journey lies a clear destination. In the beginning, the excitement of a new year fuels our ambitions, but without a roadmap, we risk staying in the same place by year-end. It's time to adopt the SMART Goal Method:

Specific: Define your goal precisely. Instead of saying, "I want to pay off debt," be specific: "I aim to pay off $40,000 in student loans by 2026."

Measurable: Establish ways to measure success. Create a budget sheet and check it regularly to track your progress.

Achievable: Ensure your goal is realistic. Consider your income and set a plan to accommodate regular contributions toward your debt.

Relevant: Every action should move you closer to your goal. Identify and cut unnecessary expenses to stay within your budget.

Time-based: Set a realistic deadline. While timelines can create pressure, they serve as benchmarks to measure your progress.

Using this goal-setting method, will help keep you accountable and within the confines of that which you can see success. The clearer you are in your vision, the easier it will be to take action. I’ve been using the SMART goal method for years now, and it’s never seemed to fail me.

Breaking Down Goals into Smaller Tasks

A couple years ago I read the best-selling book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. He teaches in this book, the power of breaking down ambitious goals into smaller, manageable tasks. Instead of overwhelming yourself with a massive objective at the start, to start small. For instance, if weight loss is your goal, commit to losing five pounds in 2024 or for certain quarter within the year. Achieving this smaller milestone boosts motivation and sets the stage for more significant accomplishments to come.

Staying Organized and Creating Systems

Organization is the backbone of goal achievement. Whether through digital tools like Google Calendar, Notion, or a simple to-do list, having a system in place is crucial. Personally, I structure my week, assigning specific days for tasks related to my YouTube channel, from recording to editing and reviewing past content. Find what works for you and stick to it.

Accountability and Support: The Power of Community

No one achieves greatness alone. Accountability partners, friends, or family members can provide the support and encouragement needed to stay on track. When I first started my business, I felt lost and confused as to where to start. I really wanted to grow my online presence pretty quick and get some income coming in. What did I decide to do about it? I hired an online business coach, and I couldn’t have done it any sooner. Within 3-months I landed my first few coaching clients. Not saying this to brag, but to shine a light on how obtaining additional accountability support (whether free or paid is up to you), can make a massive difference in your ability to see a goal to the end.

Also, sometimes I know people don’t like to share their goals too much ahead of time. My take on this though, is that sharing your journey with someone who shares your goals or has experience in your field can make a significant difference. The gym analogy holds true: the camaraderie of a class can boost motivation more than solo workouts. When I’m doing Chloe Ting’s planks at home, not even she can stop me from folding. Put me in a room full of other badass fit women though? You bet I’m holding that plank until God comes for me.

Regularly Checking In with Your Goals: The Importance of Consistency

You should see my room. There are notebooks all over the floor and sticky notes in places you wouldn’t even think of. On my bathroom and bedroom mirrors, doors shoved in drawers. My point in sharing this shameless tactic is that just as you track your finances, regularly checking in with your overall goals is vital too. Set up routine check-ins to monitor progress, identify areas for improvement, and celebrate successes. Consistency in these evaluations helps you stay focused and adaptable, adjusting your strategies as life unfolds.

Staying Flexible and Adapting to Life's Changes

I know we want to lose weight, find a partner, and make a boatload of money. However, sometimes the journey is what’s more important than the end goal. Sometimes what makes us hate ringing in a New Year and having to set a resolution, is because we feel like failures for not having ever accomplished what we set out to do the year prior. However, past failures don’t necessarily determine future failures either. Also, sometimes goals don’t always land on our timing, but the Universe’s (see blog post here on the 10 reasons why your manifestations aren’t working). I may not have manifested living downtown Toronto, the same year it was on my vision board - but I sure did end up downtown in a beautiful 2-bedroom condo on my own, paying as little as $1,100 per month a few years later.

At the end of the day, flexibility is key to long-term success. Life is unpredictable, and priorities can shift. Don't be afraid to adjust your goals and strategies accordingly. Remember, if a goal no longer aligns with your values or circumstances change, it's okay to pivot. You’re not a failure because of it.

Visualizing Success and Staying Positive

Ok, it’s time to talk manifestation babyyyyy. This is the cherry on top of all the work you’ve done before. The preparation for the intention to finally come into fruition. Not only do you have to put in the work, but maintaining a positive mindset is crucial for goal achievement. Visualization techniques, coupled with daily practices, can help keep your end goal in sight. Try tapping into the feeling of what it would like to have the goal being achieved. Walking down that aisle, an all-inclusive vacation to the Caribbean, a six-fig bank account. What do you look like? How do you feel? What can you sense and taste in your environment?

Get into the habit of envisioning you being that person today. What makes it easier to do this? Celebrate your successes along the way, no matter how small, and express gratitude for the progress you make each day. The sooner you know it, your goal will come along with more ease and fulfillment.

Celebrating Small Wins Along the Way

To reinforce the said previous point, don't underestimate the power of celebrating small wins. Building a habit of self-celebration strengthens your commitment and boosts morale. The journey is just as important as the destination. Appreciate the growth, resilience, and effort you invest daily.

As you embark on your journey to achieve your New Year goals, remember: that success is a culmination of consistent effort, adaptability, and positivity. Create a roadmap, break down your goals, stay organized, seek support, check in regularly, adapt when necessary, and celebrate every step forward. You've got this! Make THIS YEAR your year of triumph.
