My Journey With Benign Fasciculation Syndrome: Healing and Hope

For over 2 years now, I have been experiencing nonvoluntary twitching sensations randomly throughout my body. That is why diving into today’s story is one that is close to my heart. Sharing my journey with Benign Fasciculation Syndrome (BFS), a medical condition that truly made me realize how fragile our minds and bodies can be, and how important our health should be if we want to lead promising, wealthy, and abundant lives. So thank you, for allowing me to take up a blog post on my site for something deeply personal and, I hope, enlightening conversation about my experience and the path to healing.

What Is Benign Fasciculation Syndrome (BFS)?

Before I delve into my journey with BFS, let me explain what this medical condition actually is. BFS, short for Benign Fasciculation Syndrome, is characterized by involuntary muscle movements and twitches. For me, it predominantly affects my legs and waist area. While BFS isn't life-threatening, it's incredibly distressing and can significantly impact one's quality of life. It's essential to understand that, despite its "benign" label, living with BFS can be challenging.

I've always been proactive about my health. It's a core value for me, and I've taken steps to maintain a healthy lifestyle. That's what makes dealing with BFS so frustrating. This condition arrived at a time when my professional life was thriving. I was on the brink of making six figures in my first year of coaching, securing endorsements, deals, and sponsorships with prominent wellness brands. And then, suddenly, BFS entered the picture, derailing my life.

The arrival of BFS had a profound impact on my business and my mental state. It was a tough pill to swallow, given my strong emphasis on health. But part of this story is about making it relatable and showing that life throws challenges at all of us, regardless of our values and priorities. While I haven't completely eradicated BFS, I've been working on easing the symptoms and moving towards healing.

Potential Triggers of BFS: Juice Cleanse and Stress

So, what might have triggered my BFS? It's a complex puzzle. One significant factor could have been a juice cleanse I undertook during a highly stressful period back in May 2021. Juice cleanses were a trend back then, and I'd done them before without issue. However, this time, the timing was unfortunate. Cleansing my body when I was already stressed may have added to the strain on my system, ultimately leading to BFS.

The Role of Diet and Supplements

Diet played a significant role in my journey with BFS. Before this condition, I experienced lethargy and constant fatigue, despite doctors finding no underlying issues. In hindsight, I recognize that my previous stints as a vegan and vegetarian may have left me deficient in essential nutrients like B12, critical for nerve health. I've since started taking B12 supplements and other necessary vitamins to support my body's recovery.

Exploring Leaky Gut and Parasites

My health journey led me to explore the idea of leaky gut syndrome, as I've had stomach issues and food intolerances in the past. Leaky gut can contribute to various health problems, and addressing it became an essential part of my recovery process. Additionally, I've delved into parasite cleanses to rid my body of potentially harmful intruders. Parasites, while often overlooked, can leech nutrients and negatively affect your health.

The Influence of Heavy Metal Detox

One day, I stumbled upon a podcast by Dr. Mark Hyman, a well-known figure in the health and wellness community. To my surprise, he revealed that he had struggled with BFS as well. This revelation was a turning point for me; if someone of his stature could heal from it, then so could I. Dr. Hyman's method involved a heavy metal detox, a process that intrigued me. Although I haven't undergone the medical procedure known as chelation, I've started exploring alternative methods like activated charcoal and other herbs to assist with heavy metal detox.

Embracing a Holistic Healing Journey

BFS has pushed me to reevaluate every aspect of my life. It's forced me to focus on my mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, social, and environmental well-being. While the road to healing is far from linear, I've learned the importance of giving myself grace and refraining from self-blame. Healing is a continuous process, and it's crucial to understand that it's not your fault if you're dealing with a health challenge.
