How I Practice Self-Care as A Coach (Through A Wealth and Wellness Lens)
My journey towards holistic wellness has profoundly shaped my financial success. Who would’ve known that a breakup back in my early 20s would’ve been the catalyst for the woman and coach I am today? Deciding to take life into my own hands, and give myself the life I wanted so desperately to find fulfillment in and love.
This is how I’ve come to share with you in his blog post, how incorporating self-care over the years has become an everyday ritual and practice, as a way to improve my finances and overall well-being. We’ll explore the intricate connection between self-care and wealth building, blending personal stories, compelling statistics, and practical strategies while encouraging you to incorporate these practices into your own life for transformative long-term benefits.
What Is Self-Care Exactly?
Well, I can tell you what it’s not. Self-care is not just bubble baths and candles; it is the gritty, intentional practice of nurturing your mind, body, and soul. In fact, self-care shouldn’t have a price tag attached to it. Reflecting on my journey, self-care went deeper. It meant facing hard truths after a difficult breakup and committing to personal growth. It was the moments of quiet pause and reflection, setting boundaries, and actively choosing habits that served my long-term well-being.
It means doing the uncomfortable work—like journaling through emotional pain, prioritizing rest even when hustle culture says otherwise, and seeking help when you need it. It also means educating yourself, managing your wealth with care, and recognizing that taking care of yourself is the foundation for success in all areas of life.
This is why self-care matters: it increases emotional resilience, improves decision-making, and paves a sustainable path to wealth and happiness. Beyond surface-level aesthetics, true self-care requires effort—deep reflection, gratitude, continuous self-education, and nurturing connections. It is through this lens that I found strength, healed from past wounds, and built a life of purpose. The Indigenous Medicine Wheel beautifully encapsulates this holistic view, dividing wellness into four key areas: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Each of these elements is crucial for a balanced life, and I'll share how I incorporate each into my journey in the next section.
Nurturing Wellness for a Thriving Life
Wellness is the foundation of self-care, essential for achieving financial goals. My journey began in university when severe acid reflux led me to adopt a plant-based diet, eliminating dairy and meat. This not only resolved my health issues but also provided the mental clarity and energy needed to run my practice. Over time, this commitment to my physical well-being expanded into other areas of self-care, including exercise, meditation, journaling, and gratitude.
The Indigenous Medicine Wheel does a great job of representing this balance and interconnectedness, emphasizing four critical areas of well-being:
Physical Wellness
Why is it important? Physical self-care boosts mood, confidence, and mental clarity through the release of serotonin and dopamine. Exercise improves decision-making, resilience, and energy levels. My Journey: I explored yoga, treadmill sessions, and even dancing alone in my room to move stagnant energy and reduce stress. Removing dairy eliminated my acid reflux, leading me to adopt a plant-based diet that transformed my physical health. What You Can Do: Incorporate daily movement—be it walking, gym sessions, or dance—to enhance your mood and physical well-being.
Mental Wellness
Why is it important? Mental self-care fosters clarity, focus, and emotional stability. Studies show mindfulness can reduce stress by 40% and improve focus by 16%. My Journey: Journaling my thoughts, practicing mindfulness, and using supplements like Magic Mind have sharpened my mental performance and reduced brain fog. What You Can Do: Start journaling daily, practice mindfulness, and explore mental supplements to enhance your focus and reduce stress.
Emotional Wellness
Why is it important? Emotional self-care builds resilience, aids in stress management, and improves relationships. Emotional regulation helps you respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively. My Journey: Setting boundaries, expressing gratitude, and practicing breathwork have anchored me emotionally. My breakup taught me to prioritize my emotional well-being above all. What You Can Do: Set emotional boundaries, practice gratitude, and engage in emotional check-ins to nurture your emotional health.
Spiritual Wellness
Why is it important? Spiritual self-care provides purpose, peace, and inner strength. It aligns you with your higher self and fosters holistic well-being. My Journey: Meditation, prayer, and gratitude have been pillars of my spiritual practice, grounding me and providing clarity in my personal and financial life. What You Can Do: Develop a spiritual practice—be it prayer, meditation, or connecting with nature—to enhance your overall well-being.

Building Wealth Through Intentional Choices
In today's fast-paced world, the conversation around wellness has become almost ubiquitous, but wealth – particularly financial well-being – remains a crucial yet often overlooked pillar of a balanced life. As a holistic wealth coach, I believe true wealth extends beyond just money, yet today I want to place a focus on financial resources as they are undeniably the driving force behind many of our life choices.
Money impacts the jobs we pursue, the opportunities we access, and ultimately, our overall well-being. However, achieving financial wellness isn't straightforward, especially within our current economic structures which are far from equitable. Systemic barriers often place marginalized communities at a disadvantage, making it essential to acknowledge and address these disparities as we discuss wealth.
Financial wellness involves three key factors: earning, managing, and spending money effectively. But it also requires a holistic approach encompassing knowledge, emotional regulation, support, and strategy.
Knowledge: Financial literacy is a game-changer, with studies showing that individuals with high financial literacy accumulate 2.5 times more wealth. In the information age, resources are abundant – books, podcasts, public libraries, and even tools like ChatGPT can serve as accessible mentors. Seeking knowledge actively is essential for financial empowerment.
Emotional Regulation: Money can evoke intense emotions. Developing emotional resilience through regular financial check-ins, journaling, and open conversations about money helps reduce anxiety and fosters healthier financial habits. Writing a letter to money is one of my favorite exercises with clients, allowing them to confront and disarm financial fears.
Support: Having a mentor is vital, yet only 37% of people have one, despite 76% recognizing its importance. Financial success often hinges on relationships and networks, with 85% of jobs filled through networking rather than traditional applications. Seeking guidance and building connections can significantly impact your financial journey.
Strategy: With knowledge, emotional resilience, and support, crafting a clear financial plan is the final piece. Budget sheets, investment platforms, and community groups are invaluable tools. Effective strategies are personalized, intentional, and flexible, allowing you to adapt as needed while staying aligned with your financial goals.
Financial well-being and personal wellness are inseparable. Prioritizing both not only enhances your quality of life but also empowers you to unlock greater opportunities. Remember, wealth isn't just about accumulating money; it's about using resources wisely to create a fulfilling, balanced life. Let's strive for more than just enough – let's aim for abundance, well-being, and holistic wealth.
