What My Idiopathic Health Condition (BFS) Is Teaching Me About Building Wealth

Today, I want to delve into a deeply personal topic that has completely reshaped my understanding of what it means to be truly wealthy. Over the past three years, my experience with Benign Fasciculation Syndrome (BFS) has been more than just a health challenge—it has become one of my greatest teachers. Through this journey, I've learned invaluable lessons about resilience, patience, and the true essence of wealth—lessons that apply to both life and wealth building.

Note: feel free to watch the YouTube video I created last year detailing my BFS journey HERE.

The Realization: Health Is the Ultimate Wealth

Before my diagnosis, I was laser-focused on building my business. Financial success and professional achievements were my top priorities. I thought that wealth building was purely about hitting monetary milestones—growing my bank account, closing deals, and scaling my business. Like many people, I believed that financial success alone would create the life I dreamed of.

But then, BFS came into my life like a wake-up call I didn’t know I needed. For those unfamiliar, Benign Fasciculation Syndrome is a condition characterized by persistent muscle twitching, which can be uncomfortable, frustrating, and unpredictable. While it’s “benign” in nature, the physical sensations and mental toll it takes are anything but minor.

This condition forced me to confront a painful truth: No amount of financial success can compensate for poor health. Wealth without well-being is hollow. If your body, mind, or spirit are suffering, you won’t have the capacity to enjoy the financial abundance you’ve worked so hard to achieve. True wealth encompasses not just financial success, but also physical vitality, mental clarity, and emotional peace.

The Journey Over the Destination

One of the most transformative lessons BFS has taught me is the importance of valuing the journey over the destination.

Before my diagnosis, I was constantly chasing the next milestone: hitting revenue goals, launching new projects, or reaching arbitrary financial benchmarks. I thought that happiness was waiting for me at the “finish line.”

But BFS doesn’t allow for that kind of mindset. This condition forced me to slow down. To pause. To truly take stock of where I was—right here, right now. I realized that focusing solely on the destination wasn’t sustainable. It left me burned out, disconnected, and unable to appreciate the progress I was making in the moment.

Through this experience, I learned to embrace slow, steady progress. Instead of obsessing over “what’s next,” I began celebrating small victories—whether it was a symptom-free day, a creative idea for my business, or simply showing up for myself in moments when I felt discouraged.

This shift has been monumental for me, both personally and professionally. I no longer measure my success solely by financial metrics or external achievements. Instead, I value the process of growing, learning, and becoming. I’ve found joy in the steps I take each day, and that joy has fueled more sustainable growth in my business and my life.

Patience and Resilience: The Foundations of True Wealth

Living with a chronic health condition like BFS requires a tremendous amount of patience and resilience. For years, I searched for answers—testing treatments, adjusting my routines, and learning how to adapt. While the journey has been challenging, it’s also strengthened me in ways I never thought possible.

This resilience has carried over into my financial journey as well. Building wealth, like managing BFS, is not a sprint. It’s a marathon. It requires persistence, adaptability, and an unwavering belief that progress is possible, even when it feels slow.

For instance, there were moments when my symptoms flared up unexpectedly, disrupting my plans and forcing me to slow down. Similarly, in wealth building, there are times when the market dips, business growth stalls, or life throws unexpected expenses your way. In both cases, patience is key.

This experience has also reinforced the importance of flexibility. Wealth building isn’t about rigidly sticking to a plan—it’s about navigating uncertainty with grace. When challenges arise, how you respond matters more than the challenge itself. I’ve learned to view setbacks not as failures, but as opportunities to adjust, pivot, and grow.

A Humbling Reminder About Control

BFS has been a humbling reminder that, no matter how much we plan, life has its own timeline. Before my diagnosis, I prided myself on being in control—of my schedule, my finances, and my future. But BFS quickly showed me that control is often an illusion.

This realization has made me more grateful for the things I can control and more accepting of the things I cannot. It has taught me to celebrate progress, no matter how small, and to lean into uncertainty with trust and humility. These lessons have transformed the way I approach both my health and my wealth-building goals.

Instead of striving for perfection or rigidly chasing results, I focus on alignment—ensuring that my actions are in harmony with my values and long-term vision.

Prioritizing Health in a Fast-Paced World

In our fast-paced, achievement-driven world, it’s easy to neglect health in the pursuit of financial success. But my journey with BFS has taught me that true wealth begins with well-being. Without a strong foundation of physical, mental, and emotional health, everything else crumbles.

Taking care of my health is no longer negotiable. It’s a priority. This includes:

  • Regular Exercise: Moving my body in ways that feel good and support long-term wellness.

  • A Balanced Diet: Fueling my body with nourishing foods that sustain energy and vitality.

  • Adequate Rest: Giving myself permission to rest and recharge when I need it.

  • Mindfulness Practices: Using tools like meditation, journaling, or deep breathing to manage stress and stay present.

When I prioritize my well-being, I show up more fully—not just for myself, but for my family, my clients, and my business. My creativity soars, my decision-making improves, and I’m able to sustain the energy needed to pursue long-term goals.

The Intersection of Health and Financial Success

Here’s the truth: Health and wealth building are deeply interconnected. When we neglect our health, it inevitably impacts our productivity, focus, and ability to create sustainable success. Conversely, when we invest in our well-being, we unlock the energy, clarity, and resilience needed to thrive financially.

My BFS journey has reminded me that building wealth isn’t just about earning more—it’s about living more. It’s about creating a life that feels abundant in every sense of the word: abundant in health, joy, freedom, and purpose.

As I continue to navigate both my health and my business, I’m reminded daily of one simple truth: The Universe gives us what we’re ready for. Success isn’t about rushing to the finish line—it’s about showing up, staying resilient, and trusting the process.

Whether you’re working toward financial freedom, managing a health challenge, or pursuing personal growth, I hope my story serves as a reminder to prioritize your well-being and embrace the journey. Because at the end of the day, wealth is so much more than money. It’s about creating a life that feels rich in every way.

Let’s build wealth.
Let’s prioritize health.
Let’s create a life we truly love.
